Permits 

Carver County is responsible for issuing building permits for all townships as identified in the County's code of ordinances chapter 150 building regulations. Permits for construction activity within city jurisdictions are reviewed by that city. 

Building permits are required for all structures greater than 200 square feet. No permits required for structures 200 square feet or less, but setbacks apply. View building code overview for more information. Permits are required for the following activities. 

  • New construction (home, shed, swimming pool).
  • Additions (home, shed, business).
  • Driveways.
  • Work to existing structures. 
  • Any work with electric, gas, plumbing, mechanical, or other equipment that is regulated by the state building code. 

Appointments 

  • Appointments encouraged for all inquiries. 
  • Have all required information ready for permit application appointments. 
  • Schedule appointments at landmanagement@carvercountymn.gov or (952) 361-1820. 

Inspections 

An application must be completed including submittal, review, approval, and issuance, before scheduling an inspection with Metro West Inspection Services, Inc. Call (763) 479-1720 to schedule.
