The Land Records & Vitals Department currently maintains Vital Statistics records. These records consist of birth, death, and marriage records. Also covered in this department are notary public commissions and ordinations.

Requests for vital records can be made by downloading an application from our website and either emailing to recorder@co.carver.mn.us or mailing to Land Records & Vitals Department, 600 E 4th Street, Chaska MN 55318. The type of application determines if it can be emailed or needs to be mailed. You can also drop off applications for vital record requests in the Tax Payment drop box (next to the US Mail box) in the parking lot at the Government Center and we will process and mail them to you.

 NOTICE:

Minnesota Session Laws recent amendment to allow Marriage License Application and Oath without appearance during a peacetime emergency expired on 5/31/2021. We will continue to schedule appointments for Marriage License Applications and Oath to be administered in person after June 1st. Please contact our office at 952-361-1930 to schedule an appointment.

**2020 Legislation: Effective August 1, 2020 H.F. 745 Removes provisions allowing minors to marry. Proof of age 18 at time of application for a license to marry will be required. Please include a copy of your state issued ID with your marriage license application.

**If you applied for a marriage license and your wedding date has been delayed because of COVID19, illness or other extenuating circumstance and you are still within the 6-month active time frame, you may be able to return the marriage packet you received from Carver County. You would not receive a refund however you would be eligible for a reissued license when you are able to reschedule your wedding.

Per MS 517.08 Subd 1b(a) If the license should not be used within the period of six months due to illness or other extenuating circumstances, it may be surrendered to the local registrar for cancellation, and in that case a new license shall issue upon request of the parties of the original license without fee.
