Carver County, MN
Home MenuHighway 41/10 Project
Project Description
Carver County, in collaboration with MnDOT and Chaska, is working to identify and implement transportation system improvements on Highway 10 from Bavaria Road to Park Ridge Drive in the City of Chaska. Highway 10 is an important roadway in Carver County providing connections to multiple communities and accommodating vehicle, pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and freight traffic alike. The goal with this project is to improve transportation system issues and potential opportunities both today and into the future. Please visit the Highway 10 Corridor Study webpage for further background information.
Identified Improvements
In late 2022, the project team revisited the corridor study to make sure that identified improvements were still the best options. Upon review, it was determined that a system of roundabouts, with some design improvements, would work better. These design improvements will give the roundabouts the same feel as the recently opened roundabout at Highway 41 and Peavey Road. It was also determined that implementation of a roundabout at the Highway 41/10 intersection would allow for a roundabout at the Highway 10/White Oak Drive intersection, improving turning movement safety and delay time for traffic entering 10 from White Oak Drive. A project layout is available at the bottom of this page showing the proposed improvements.
Roundabout Information
Please see handout that describes in detail roundabout information for this project. Visit MnDOT's website for further roundabout information.
Pedestrian Benefits
As a part of this project, the project team has determined the need for the following pedestrian improvements:
- Extension of the Highway 10 Trail from Ridge Lane to Ravoux road (see layout below)
- Enhanced pedestrian crossings (side mounted RRFB’s) at four locations
- Grade separated crossings at two legs of the 41/10 intersection
Motorized Vehicle Benefits
- Improve current capacity, safety, and travel time for vehicles and non-motorized users.
- Provide a modern design of a four-lane highway (2 lanes in each direction) with a center median and trail connections along Highway 10 (Engler Blvd.).
- Minimize construction activities and land acquisition costs, impacts to properties, and impacts to existing utilities.
- Evaluate access modifications for properties and local street connections that make it safer and easier to get on, off, and across Highway 10.
- Improve safety, traffic flow, and operations at the Highway 41/10 intersection.
In addition to the reconstruction and 4-lane conversion from Bavaria Road to Park Ridge Drive, Carver County will be doing maintenance overlays from the Highway 212 ramps to the west end project limits and from the east end project limits to Audubon Road.
Noise Information
The Highway 41/10 Project includes evaluating noise impacts as part of the overall design process. Watch this video for more information about the general noise study process.
Note: This video was produced for MnDOT's 2015 Noise Policy and some provisions may not be relevant for all road construction/noise wall projects.
Past Meetings
April 10, 2024 Informational Public Meeting
An in person public meeting was held at the Chaska Community Center. It was open house-style with project information on display via exhibits and tabletop maps. The project team was in attendance to answer questions.
