Carver County Water Management has put together a story walk that teachers and educators may borrow for water education.

Water is water story walk

What is a story walk?

A story walk is pages from a picture book that are pasted on yard signs and set up along a walking path for children to follow. This Kellogg-Hubbard Library article on storywalks outlines and explains them more.

Our story walk

We have chosen the story "Water is Water" by Miranda Paul, a beautifully illustrated book about the water cycle. It is constructed on foam boards with yard stakes, so it is easy to set up and take down no matter the location. Each page/board has an action or pose that is related to the phase of the water cycle, which makes this activity fun and engaging.

It is a perfect way to introduce the water cycle before a lesson, after a lesson, or just as a fun movement activity.

Borrow the story walk

  • Contact us by e-mail or phone to borrow the story walk.
  • It is designed to be set up outside. Ideal locations are in a field or along a sidewalk path.
  • It is preferred that the story walk be set up in the morning and taken down at night to prevent any damage.
  • Schools will need to pick up the storybook walk at the Carver County Government Center located at 600 east 4th St. Chaska. Occasionally, staff are traveling around the county for work, so if picking up is a barrier to using, please let us know and we’ll see if we can coordinate a drop off.
