Thanks to a partnership between Carver County Environmental Services, Revolution Plastics and the University of Minnesota Extension Office, local farmers recycled 29,000 pounds of plastics in 2023. The spring 2024 collection resulted in another 18,000 pounds recycled.

With this innovative free recycling program, agricultural, marine and greenhouse plastics destined for landfills or burn barrels can be recycled, while simultaneously reducing disposal fees.Bags1

How it works

Participants in the program are able to pick up free packs of recapture bags that serve as a way to collect their plastics. Each recapture bag is designed to hold approximately 200 pounds of plastics, and participants are responsible for filling the 8 foot by 10 foot bags with their plastics. Farmers, marinas, and greenhouses are encouraged to participate in this program to help reduce the amount of plastic wraps and films that end up in a landfill.

Acceptable items:

Agriculture and grain bags
Boat film
Greenhouse film and covers
Hockey rink liners
Stretch wrap

Please note bale wrap is no longer accepted by Revolution Plastics. If any is identified in the recapture bags, they will discontinue this service in Carver County. Ice rink material that is reinforced by string or netting, plastic twine, scrim, glass, aluminum, wood, and other grades of plastic are also not accepted. Boat wrap must be free of zippers, vents, strings, ropes and metal grommets. Please do not drop off any bags that will result in contamination. If you have questions on whether a type of plastic is acceptable, please contact the Environmental Services office at (952) 361-1800.

Drop off full, tied bags during a collection period. The fall collection will run from September 2nd to October 31st, 2024.
