How do I get food?

Many food shelves accept walk-ins, but appointments are encouraged.

Most food shelves have an intake process and ask people to fill out a short form. Food shelves must follow data privacy laws, so information collected cannot be shared with anyone, including law enforcement agencies. Income is self-declared and food shelves cannot ask for proof of income.

Food shelves provide a variety of food, including fresh produce, dairy products, dry goods, meat, fresh bread, and more. Most allow you to shop for the items you want, similar to shopping at a grocery store.

What food shelf should you use?

Food shelves must serve everyone on their first visit, but they may refer you to a food shelf closer to where you live after the first visit. If it’s more convenient for you to use a certain food shelf, you are encouraged to talk to food shelf staff to let them know your situation.
