The mission of the Carver County Adult Mental Health Program is to work collaboratively with individuals experiencing serious and persistent mental illness to help them achieve optimal wellness. This is accomplished through encouraging independence and involvement in community. We connect people with the services and resources they need to reach their life goals.
The Adult Mental Health Program provides adult mental health targeted case management, community support program services, and pre-petition screening services.
Case management services help adults gain access to medical, social, educational, vocational, and other necessary services as they relate to the person’s mental health needs. We partner with participants to complete functional assessments, develop an individual community support plan (ICSP) to identify goals and develop strategies for goal achievement, and provide support in increasing overall health and wellness. A case manager will meet with program participants at least once per month.
The Community Support Program provides client outreach services, social, recreational and educational activities, housing support, linkages with employment resources, crisis prevention assistance, and medication monitoring. We offer a monthly calendar of activities, which includes drop-in visits.

The Pre-Petition Screening Program has the responsibility of providing impartial, in-depth screening of all requests for civil commitment of Carver County residents. The team supports involuntary commitment only after it has considered less restrictive alternatives and deems them inappropriate or unavailable, or if these less restrictive alternatives are refused by the proposed individual. The petitions for commitment are filed through the office of the Carver County Attorney. The petition must be accompanied by the written statement of a qualified mental health examiner who has found the proposed individual to be mentally ill, developmentally disabled, or chemically dependent (or a combination of these), and furthermore in need of commitment.
