Regardless of your previous line of work, real-world experience will serve you well as a peace officer. We are encouraging persons who are working in other fields to apply for the Carver County Sheriff’s Office Cadet Program. The Sheriff’s Cadet Program is designed to facilitate the entry of qualified candidates to a Deputy Sheriff position. Positions within the licensed deputy divisions include; Patrol, Civil Process, Recreational Services, Court Services and Investigations. Additional assignments may include; Crime Scene Technicians, SWAT, Field Training Officer, Range Instructor, Use of Force Instructor, Detective and Narcotics Agent.
Sheriff Cadets are individuals the Sheriff’s Office has committed to employ as licensed peace officers when they meet all hiring standards for the position. The Carver County Sheriff’s Office will provide proper education and training to Cadets that fully satisfy Minnesota P.O.S.T (Peace Officer Standards Training) Board requirements.
A Deputy Sheriff should be a practitioner in the areas of interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, and ethical decisions. These characteristics are important and required to become a successful Sheriff’s Deputy. Your current life skills and experience will help you transition to your new career in law enforcement.
Furthermore, a Deputy Sheriff must have a strong selfless commitment and willingness to serve with a strong desire to be a positive role model in the community.
