The internship program at Carver County Court Services is designed to assist Corrections and Criminal Justice students to further enhance their professional goals and expose them to the various elements of the field. It provides an opportunity for the student to apply academic knowledge and individual skills in a specialized setting. The mission of the internship program is to create an environment in which the student can benefit by exploring their professional possibilities and abilities.
Carver County Court Services is located in the Carver County Justice Center at 604 East 4th Street, Chaska, MN, 55318
Application Due Dates:
- January 31 for an internship beginning in June
- May 31 for an internship beginning in September
- September 30 for an internship beginning in January
Requirements:
- Student must be enrolled at a 4-year college or university
- Internship must be a requirement for graduation
- Student must be within 1 year of graduation
- Student must commit to 400 hours; 32-40/week
- This is an unpaid position
Learning Opportunities:
- Work with both adult and juvenile agents
- Observe court system and roles of involved individuals/agencies
- Report writing, client interviews, risk/need assessments, restitution investigations, special projects
- Introduction to client supervision in the area of pre-trial release, multiple DWI and traditional caseloads (high and low risk offenders)
- Assist support staff as needed
- Training if available; cognitive skills groups if available
