The Carver County Sheriff's Office has several deputies trained in Commercial Vehicle Weight Enforcement. The Unit is deployed in the spring when road weight restrictions are in place.

The Carver County Sheriff's Office has full-time and part-time Community Service Officers (CSO) that contract with the communities of Carver, Cologne, Hamburg, Mayer, New Germany, Norwood Young America, Victoria, Waconia, and Watertown. Community Service Officers are civilian personnel who provide the following types of assistance to licensed deputies:

• animal control, both domestic and wildlife 
• park patrol at Baylor, Waconia and Lake Minnewashta Regional Parks
• traffic control assistance
• non-threatening calls for service assistance
• city ordinance enforcement such as watering and parking rules
• many other duties and tasks as assigned.

Minnesota State Law Library Ordinances

The Carver County Sheriff's Office Field Training Unit is comprised of a licensed sergeant, and licensed deputy field training officers (FTO).

Deputies chosen to be Field Training Officers are selected for their talents in teaching, coaching, mentoring and knowledge of modern law enforcement requirements. The field training program is currently 16 weeks long and is completed primarily in an on-the-job environment. The training covers topics such as knowledge of laws, traffic law/procedures, arrest procedures, cognitive abilities, information processing, and interpersonal skills. 

Carver County Sheriff's Office currently has two dogs and handlers assigned to the K-9 Unit:

• Sergeant Mueller, and "Ringo", a German Shepard
• Deputy Pysick, and "Gustave", a German Shepard

The K-9 teams are utilized to search for missing persons and evidence, apprehend fleeing or hiding suspects, drug detection, and public outreach. “We are extremely lucky and proud to have the community support of our two K-9 units,” says Sheriff Jason Kamerud.

With the exception of the city of Chaska which is policed by the Chaska Police Department, the Carver County Sheriff's Office responds to calls for service within Carver County. The cities of Carver, Chanhassen, Cologne, Hamburg, Mayer, New Germany, Norwood Young America, Victoria, Waconia and Watertown, as well as Laketown Township contract with our Office for additional services.

Licensed deputies and volunteers utilize ATV's to assist with park patrol and respond to calls for service. The Carver County Sheriff's Office continues to assist with education and training for youth ATV riders.

Park Patrol

The Carver County Sheriff's Office utilizes licensed deputies, community service officers (CSO) and volunteers to patrol the parks within the county. When visiting any of the parks in the county, visitors should keep the following rules in mind:

• Parking is limited to designated areas. Owners of boats and trailers need to be especially cognizant of posted parking regulations.
• Littering will not be tolerated. (Littering is a misdemeanor in the state of Minnesota)
• Dog owners should be aware
  • Dogs must be on a leash and under the owner's control
  • Barking dogs need to be removed so as not to create a nuisance
  • Dog waste must be cleaned up

Snowmobile Patrol

Licensed deputies and volunteers are utilized to enforce the laws and ordinances of the snowmobile trails. Any person born after December 31, 1976 is required to possess a snowmobile safety certificate to operate a snowmobile in the state of Minnesota. To obtain a safety certificate, an operator must complete a snowmobile safety training course. For a list of currently scheduled classes around the state, check the DNR Website.

Water Patrol

Licensed deputies and volunteers patrol and respond to incidents that may occur on the lakes and rivers within Carver County. The water patrol is responsible for inspections of watercraft, assisting the dive team during training and emergency operations, and education of safe boating practices.

Grants from the federal and state government assist in funding the water patrol.

The Carver County Sheriff's Office maintains a Traffic Safety Program (TSP) by participating in grant-funded multi-agency activities like Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) and Sustained Impaired Driving Enforcement, scheduling various "special" shifts throughout the year to allow the deputies to focus on traffic safety. 

Throughout the year and particularly around certain events, the Carver County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Program will have additional officers on patrol with the express goal of traffic safety education and enforcement. During these times, officers may be targeting specific violation or problem areas, or educating the public regarding specific issues.

Deputies assigned to TZD events are required to maintain the following training certifications: 

• SFST-Standardized Field Sobriety Training   
• OPUE-Occupant Protection Usage Enforcement   
• DTID-Drugs That Impair Driving.
