The Investigations and Professional Responsibility Division is comprised of a licensed sergeant, investigators, investigation assistant, and an evidence technician operating under the leadership of the Lieutenant of Investigations and Professional Responsibility and Commander of Operation Services.

Investigations

The Investigations Unit investigates a wide variety of crimes against person and property. The Unit also prepares and executes search warrants, recovers stolen property, collects evidence for use in prosecution, and specializes in computer forensics, which involves the recovery of electronic evidence and data for the purpose of solving cases.

The investigators receive specialized training in investigative techniques, arson investigation, child abuse, computer forensics, white collar crime, interviewing techniques and many other skills.

The investigation assistant is responsible for case management, investigative assistance, predatory offender notifications, vehicle forfeitures, statistical information, and provides assistance to the evidence technician.

Evidence and Property

Evidence and property storage is managed by the investigative sergeant and evidence technician and consists of recovered stolen property, crime scene evidence, found property, safe-keeping items, and any item that may warrant a secure area. The evidence and property room is secured using a bio-metric card reader and fingerprint readers. Lockers are provided at various remote Sheriff's Offices for evidence submissions by Carver County Sheriff's Office personnel.

Drug Task Force (SWMDTF)

Carver County currently has one investigator assigned to the South West Metro Drug Task Force (SWMDTF) to assist with drug crimes.

Task Force voting members include: Carver County Sheriff's Office, McLeod County Sheriff's Office, Scott County Sheriff's Office, Hutchinson Police Department, Jordan Police Department, Prior Lake Police Department, Shakopee Police Department, South Lake Minnetonka Police Department, and Belle Plaine Police Department.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force to provide a comprehensive and multi-jurisdictional effort to reduce drug trafficking and its harmful consequences and to provide effective drug awareness education through the coordination and resource sharing of its participating agencies.
