The Carver County Sheriff's Office is proud to take part in community engagement events such as National Night Out, the Carver County Fair, and the various city sponsored celebrations throughout the county.

The Court Services Unit is comprised of a licensed sergeant and licensed deputies. The Court Services Unit is responsible to ensure the safety and security of the Carver County Courthouse and courtrooms. Licensed deputies serve as bailiffs transporting in-custody persons, maintaining order inside and outside of courtrooms, and staffing the weapons screening area.

NO FIREARMS OR WEAPONS ARE ALLOWED IN THE JUSTICE CENTER

As a reminder to courtroom visitors-all electronic devices must be turned off and hats and coats must be removed prior to entering the courtroom.

The Carver County Sheriff's Office maintains a diverse fleet of motor vehicles, boats, snowmobiles, and ATVs to be used in various operations throughout the county. The fleet is managed primarily by the Lieutenant of Administrative & Justice Services with input and assistance from the Lieutenant of Patrol Services and the Public Works Operations Supervisor. The majority of our fleet used in patrol operations is the Ford Explorer Police Utility. The remainder of the fleet consists of various vehicles used for operations in Investigations, Civil Process, Dive Team, Recreational Services, Court Security & Transports and SWAT.

Deputies are able to provide security and traffic control at private events such as triathlons, high school football games, concerts, and 5K races. The deputies that work these events do so in their off-duty time. That means there is no impact to on-duty law enforcement resources and police services for these private events are not funded by tax dollars. If you believe an employee of the Carver County Sheriff's Office has behaved in an inappropriate manner, you are encouraged to inform the Office. Often complaints and concerns can be handled without filing a "formal" complaint.

• In person at the Carver County Sheriff's Office, 606 E. 4th Street, Chaska, MN 55331. Business hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If it is outside normal business hours, you may use the phone in the lobby and ask to speak to the on-duty supervisor.

• If you choose to file a formal written complaint, please complete this form fully and accurately (En Español use esta forma). When describing the incident, please include a detailed account as you remember it; location, date, time, names of person(s) involved and/or witnesses, name of officer(s) or personnel involved and a phone number we can reach you at. If you do not know the name of the officer(s) or personnel involved, please use the narrative section to provide a detailed description.  Please include any conversation or action taken by the officer(s) or personnel involved and describe in detail what you felt the officer(s) or personnel did that was inappropriate. State law requires a signed, written complaint be completed prior to the start of an investigation. Please remember to sign the form in the "Citizen Signature" area.

Upon receipt of your completed form, your complaint will be assigned and investigated. Upon completion of the investigation, a "Finding of Fact" will be determined. Please allow six to eight weeks for the investigation process to be completed. Data Practices prohibits us from sharing certain information with you, however we will notify you by letter of the disposition of your complaint.

The Training Unit provides a variety of POST certified law enforcement training for the Office. Types of training include use of force, first aid, firearms and emergency vehicle operations. The training unit assists in preparing our officers to respond to incidents that may involve: weapons of mass destruction, HazMat and blood borne pathogens. All licensed officers are required to complete at least 48 credits of continuing education every three years to keep their license active.

The Carver County Sheriff's Office utilizes current staff to instruct many of our classes: range/firearms instructors, use of force/defensive tactics instructors, Taser instructors, interpersonal communications skills instructors, among many others. Instructors are chosen through our employee growth and development program.

The Carver County Sheriff's Office also trains annually with scenario based training. Scenario based training develops and expands the employees decision making and judgment skills. During scenario based training, the employee is introduced into a realistic scenario. The employee reacts according to the actions of the role player and the event occurring. The actions are then discussed and critiqued with the employee.
