After delivery, a public health nurse can:

- Offer lactation support from an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and/or a Certified Breastfeeding Educator.
- Provide continued education and support on infant growth and development, including key milestones and activities.
- Promote a positive parent/child relationship and increase confidence in parenting skills.
- Connect families to community resources.
